NONGPOH: Assam police personnel from Gulangti outpost raided the house of the Rangbah Shnong of Sabuda village, B Sohtun on Wednesday night.

Sohtun was not present when the Assam police came to raid his house.

The action of the police has created a sense of panic among the people residing in the villages under Block-II.

When contacted, Sohtun, who is also the president of Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong ka Raid Nongtung, said he was away in Mawlasnai when the Assam Police team raided his house.

“I am shocked,” he said adding that he had no clue about the action of Assam police. He, however, suspects that the possible reason for the action is because the villagers under Raid Nongtung had decided to cast their votes in Meghalaya against the wish of the Assam Government.

“The Assam Government had been insisting that we should vote in Assam,” Sohtun said.

He, however, revealed that he is being hunted not only by the Assam police but also by the militant group like KNLF.

“I was asked by the leaders of the KNLF to meet them on September 14. The militant outfit wanted a share of the money which has been earmarked for the local villagers under the MNREGS,” the Rangbah Shnong said.
