SHILLONG: Prominent NGOs along with headmen from the city and its outskirts on Saturday unanimously decided to put pressure on the State government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State.
In a meeting at the U Soso Tham Conference Hall, 10 NGOs along with 70 Rangbah Shnong urged the Government to “to stop talking and start acting” on the influx issue.
“ILP must be introduced in the State and the Government should work towards the same. We have not seen proactive steps which can convince the NGOs and the people that the government has taken measures to check the problem of influx”, KSU president Daniel Khyriem said after the meeting.
FJKJGP president Joe Marwein also slammed the Government’s alleged lack of seriousness over the issue.
The NGOs and headmen also demanded that the hearing relating to voters’ enrollment should be held in
each and every locality/village in the presence of functionaries of the Dorbar Shnong for identifying genuine persons who are to be enrolled in the electoral rolls of the state.
In the Electoral summary in Meghalaya which will kick start on October 1st, the 10 NGOs and Rangbah Shnong have made it clear that they will not allow the district administrations to carry independent hearings without the Dorbar Shnong.
Meanwhile, slamming the government’s interest in forming various committees, Marwein stated that the formation of various committees to discuss on this issue is nothing but mere wastage of time.
He also criticized the high level committee on influx which met on Friday sans the NGOs.
