SHILLONG: The ten NGOs (KSU, FKJGP, HNYF, SSSS, KWADA, CSWO and others) have warned MLAs to stop issuing certificates to people with a dubious character, allowing them to enroll themselves in the Election voter’s list.

“We have got certificates issued by many legislators giving their testimony to certain dubious people of being genuine citizens of the State,” KSU general secretary Augester Jyrwa said.

While stating that this act on the part of the MLAs is illegal, Jyrwa said that the Election Commission has also made it clear that people representatives are not authorized to issue any certificates for enrollment in the electoral rolls.

Meanwhile, the NGOs have urged upon the local Dorbar Shnong to take part in the hearings to be conducted by the Election department which would be held in their respective localities during the this whole month to verify the credentials of those people who want to be enrolled in the electoral rolls.

“The appointment of a member of the Dorbar Shnong as BLA is important since it would allow the Dorbar to be a part and parcel of the whole exercise which would be conducted during the hearing,” the KSU leader said.

Meanwhile, the ten NGOs have also warned the legislators not to disturb or interfere in the hearing.
