SHILLONG: The Seng Khasi Ri Raid Laban (SKRRL) has blamed Laban MLA Sanbor Shullai for the alleged misuse of Seng Khasi flag during the recently concluded Durga Puja celebration saying “it has documentary evidence to prove the charge.”
While urging the authorities to take stringent action against those responsible for the misuse the Seng Khasi flag, the SKRRL president BS Marbaniang in a memorandum to the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner on Monday said it was shocking to see Shullai, who is the president of the Irish Shullai Durga Puja Committee (ISDPC), denying the charges.
According to Marbaniang, the flag was seen on the truck carrying the idols for immersion.
Terming Shullai’s statement that the vested interests were behind this as ‘misleading’, the SKRRL president said the Laban MLA was trying to hide the truth.
Marbaniang revealed that Shullai on October 24 had approached one of the leaders of the organisation Shiningstar Rynjah for the Seng Khasi flag.
“After Rynjah refused give him the flag, the Laban MLA approached me,” he said adding “I also expressed my inability to provide the flag and asked him to take it from Seng Khasi (Sengkmie) Mawkhar”.
Shullai, however, never approached the Seng Khasi (Sengkmie) Mawkhar to get the flag, Marbaniang said.
