Agartala: Ahead of Assembly elections in Tripura due next year, the ruling CPI-M in the state on Saturday alleged a similarity among Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, Bangladesh National Party (BNP) chief Khaleda Zia and banned outfit of All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) leader Ranjit Debbarma in regard to relations between India and Bangladesh.
Talking to media here, CPI-M spokesperson Goutam Das alleged that ATTF supremo Ranjit Debbarma had recently written to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requesting her not to allow transit to India, which would apparently be beneficial for Tripura. ‘ At a time, when both countries are pursuing for strengthening bilateral relations and the present government is considering extending transit facilities to India, ATTF’s letter clearly indicates that they have been working for BNP; what exactly was done by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Teesta water sharing issue last year, ‘ Mr Das attributed.
He, however, said transit for northeastern states was all set to be ready but when Ms Banerjee took a critical stand on Teesta issue, the entire gamut of bilateral initiative had been changed and ultimately the region was the worst sufferer.
Similarly, when the Bangladesh government had announced to felicitate Indian luminaries for their contribution on the 40th anniversary of Bangladesh liberation war early this year, the BNP had staged protests and demonstrations and came on streets against the decision of felicitating Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Mr Das stated.
He also alleged that Tripure Peoples Democratic Front, the frontal orgainsation of ATTF, had distributed CDs in Jirania and Mohanpur subdivisions, outskirts of Agartala with communal overtones to disturb the peaceful environment of the state.
Meanwhile, Tripura police claimed ATTF self-styled chief of army staff Chitta Debbarma alias Bikash Kolai along with three other frontliners had surrendered on Friday. (UNI)
