SHILLONG: The Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Conrad Sangma has alleged that some political parties are misusing the recently launched Scheme for Financial Empowerment of Women
Raising the issue during Question Hour on the first day of the winter session of the State Assembly on Tuesday, the Opposition leader said people are being asked to join certain political parties to avail the scheme.
Terming the alleged misuse of the scheme as a dangerous trend, he said around 30,000 forms had been distributed in Selsella and Ampati for the scheme while the scheme is meant for only ten thousand people in Garo Hills.
In his response, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said the State Government has targeted to bring four lakh people under this scheme.
Stating that he had no information on alleged misutilisation of the scheme, he said the scheme was implemented in a transparent manner.
“Political parties may have taken advantage of the scheme,” he said adding that this was not being done at the “direction of the government”.
He said the Government has established Entrepreneur Facilitation Centre at in all the blocks in the state to encourage entrepreneurship among women.
