SHILLONG: Shillongites will welcome the year 2013 in a unique way amidst beautiful fireworks as Hotel Polo Towers has contemplated to arrange for a free public fireworks display on January 1.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, CEO and Director of Hotel Polo Towers Pvt Ltd Deval Tibrewalla said that the unique event displaying exemplary fireworks display will be held in the premises of Assembly near Khyndailad.

The firework display will begin from 7:30pm and will last probably for half an hour or forty five minutes.

To make the event successful, a professional pyrotechnic firm has been brought from Kolkata who will choreograph the entire display.

The group has already obtained permission from the Deputy Commissioner and the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly for the event.

Reacting to a query on the environmental precautions for the event, he said that the firm has assured the group that their fireworks have less carbon footprint.

The firework display is also expected to attract tourists who come to Shillong for their New Year bash.
