In West Khasi Hills District, 30 candidates would be wrestling it out this election from 5 assembly constituencies.

From 30- Mairang AC, incumbent MLA and UDP stalwart Metbah Lyngdoh is likely to retain his position. New- comer and INC candidate Dr Eureka F P Lyngdoh, though from the ruling party, has been predicted to have a fighting chance to make a mark.

From 31-Mawthadraishan AC, a triangular battle has been forecasted between Congress’ Boldness Nongum, HSPDP’s Dr Fenela Nonglait and Independent candidate Irin Lyngdoh.

However, Dr.Fenela Lyngdoh could have an added edge among the candidates.

From 32-Nongstoin AC, Hopingstone Lyngdoh of the HSPDP is termed as the favourite. However, owing to the delimitation, Dr Adviser Pariong of the Congress could give his mentor a stiff competition.

From 33- Rambrai AC, HSPDP’s K P Pangniang and Independent candidate Kimfa Marbaniang would be the main contenders. While Pangniang is known for his stand on the Meghalaya- Assam boundary dispute, Kimfa is being hailed for his soft and polite nature.

Meanwhile, the Garo voters of Khyrshai and Malangkona area are said to have backing Pangniang for his stand on the border row.

With 12 candidates in the fray and the AC constituting of both Khasi and Garo candidates, 34- Mawshynrut AC has been perplexing political pundits. However, analysts say that Independent Candidate Pelcy Snaitang has a slight edge over his counter-parts.

Coming close to his heels is Witting Mawsor of the HSPDP. Garo Independent candidate Lowis Sangma is also being projected as a strong contender.
