Rahul Gandhi visit

The vice president of Indian National Congress Rahul Gandhi will address public rallies at Williamnagar and Mawkyrwat at 10 am and 11.30 am respectively on February 20. Later he will another rally in Nongpoh at 1 pm the same day.

NCP Sec

The National Congress Party (NCP) has appointed Meristella Wahlang as secretary of the Meghalaya State NCP Mahila Samiti with immediate effect.

Strike

As part of the nationwide strike, the Meghalaya State Council of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) will stage a two-day strike from February 20 – 21, to protest against anti-people economic reforms and anti-people policy of the government. The AITUC has called upon the people to extend their cooperation.

Awards

The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, has invited nominations to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Governmant of India national awards for the year 2012-13 The awards consists of Dronacharya Awards which carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh. It has invited nominations for the Tensing Norgay National Adventure Award 2012.

Resignation

Jeremaiah Jyrwa from Nongthymmai constituency along with all the members enrolled by him and R Nongkhlaw has announced their resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on February 16.

Seminar

The Department of Anthropology, Dibrugarh University will organise a two-day UGC sponsored national seminar on “Indigenous Health Practise” with special reference to the tribes of North East on March 22 and 23.
