Kohima: Nagaland Governor of Nikhil Kumar has dissolved the 11th Nagaland Legislative Assembly and has appointed Neiphiu Rio as the Chief Minister of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly under the provision of Article 164 (1) of the Constitution of India and also asked Mr. Rio to function till a new Ministry takes oath.
In a statement Naga Peoples Front (NPF) Press Secretary Abu Metha said that Governor Nikhil Kumar has dissolved the 11th Assembly and requested the outgoing Cabinet under Rio to continue in office till alternative arrangements were made.
He said earlier, on Saturday Rio met the Governor on Saturday and presented the list of DAN III supporters comprising 47 MLAs with 38 NPF, 1 BJP, 1 JD (U) and 7 Independents.
After this, Nikhil Kumar appointed Rio to be the new Chief Minister of DAN III Government under the provision of the Constitution of India, Rio recommended the dissolution of the 11th Nagaland Legislative Assembly and submitted the resignation of his Council of Ministers to the Governor to pave way for the 12th Legislative Assembly.
The Governor of Nagaland, through an order passed the same day, dissolved the Assembly.
The CM has also presented the list of DAN III supporters comprising 38 NPF MLAs, 1 BJP MLA, 1 JD (U) MLA and 7 independent MLAs to the Governor.
An official release today said that Nagaland Governor has dissolved the Eleventh Nagaland Legislative Assembly in accordance to sub-clause (b) of clause (2) of Article 174 read with clause (1) of Article 172 of the Constitution of India with immediate effect. The Twelfth Nagaland Legislative Assembly has been subsequently constituted by a notification of the Election Commission of India.
The notification was handed over personally to the Governor of Nagaland by the Secretary, Election Commission of India, Anuj Jaipuriar on Sunday.
The Secretary ECI was accompanied by officials from the ECI, Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland Jan-e Alam and other officials of the State Government.
The new Ministry under the leadership of Neiphiu rio is likely to be sworn-in ton Tuesday, sources said. (UNI)
