Czech Republic keen on joint ventures in Northeast India

Agartala: The Czech Republic is keen to set up joint ventures in agro-based industrial sectors in northeast India and is also willing to extend technical support to develop the segment, Czech Ambassador to India Miloslav Stasek said here on Thursday.

“With the developing of agro-based industries in Tripura and other northeastern states, the region could build up a strong trade network between the region, south and southeast Asia,” Stasek told reporters.

“Most of the northeastern states have got a lot of potential in housing joint ventures in agro-based industries while technical expertise of the Czech Republic and support from Czech Export Bank in form of soft loans could make it a great initiative for the south and southeast Asian market,” he said.

Stasek said there was huge scope to develop and to set up agro-based industries using the region’s famed pineapple, cashew nuts, orange and other fruits and agro-products, that are of natural high quality.

While talking to media at Civil Secretariat here on Thursday, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to India, Miloslav Stasek, said his country is keen on investing in Tripura mainly in agriculture and fruit processing sector, like pineapple, cashew nut, orange etc.

Besides, Stasek stated that they are also willing to invest in biogas plant, assisting the state in preservation of forest and environment.

Stasek said the Czech business delegation would visit the state to explore ties with business communities of the state. The Czech envoy said his meeting Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was a positive one and he assured all kind of assistance for investing in the state.

The Czech’s offers include providing assistance in engineering technology, heavy machinery for agriculture sector. Recalling how India-Czech commercial cooperation boomed half a century ago when 100 industrial projects were built in India with participation of Czech firms in the 1960s, he said these include HEC Ranchi, BHEL Hyderabad, and HMT Pinjore and Ennore Power plant.

Besides Mumbai to liaise with the film industry as Prague, the capital of Czech Republic provides ideal locale for Indian film industry, with its beautiful ambience.
