St Edmund’s lift U-19 cricket trophy

SHILLONG: St Edmund’s College (Higher Secondary Section) lifted the Babu Ondromoni Dkhar Memorial trophy on Monday by defeating Laban Bengalee Boy’s HS School by eight wickets in the senior category of the Inter School Cricket Tournament.

The tournament was organized by the Shillong Cricket Association in collaboration with the Meghalaya Cricket Association.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Laban Boy’s were all out for a paltry 92 runs in 20 overs, reduced from 25.

Kaushik Bhowmick scored 24 runs while Subham Sharma claimed four wickets for Edmund’s.

In reply the Edmundians crossed the target in 14.2 overs, scoring 94 runs with a hard hitting knock of 45 runs from 27 balls by Abhay Kumar, while Subham Sharma chipped in with 27 runs.

Suresh Balmiki claimed one wicket for Laban.

In individual awards, Bijon Dey and Kaushik Bhowmick of Laban Boy’s were declared the best bowler and batsman respectively, while Abhay Rai and Shubham Sharma of St Edmund’s were adjudicated as Man-of-the-Final and Man-of-the-Series respectively.

In the final of the Junior category for the Late IP Das Memorial trophy, played last week, St Anthony’s School emerged as champions and St Xavier’s as runners-up.

In this group, S Ali of Jail Road Boy’s School was declared as the best bowler while the best batsman and Player-of-the-Series awards went to Akshay Dutta of St Anthony’s School.

Man-of-the-Final was deservedly bestowed upon Deepak Tripathy also of St Anthony’s.

The prizes were distri-buted by Paul Lyngdoh MLA and patron of the SCA and Naba Bhattacharjee, President SCA.
