NONGSTOIN: The 15 day bandh called by the GNLA militants group at Shallang coalbelt area of West Khasi Hills entered its third day on Friday leading a miserable life to the local residents.
The Shallang marketplace saw a tight security from Shallang Police.
All the non tribal shops were closed down for the last three days with only a few shops being open.
However, the coal laden trucks are seen plying through Shallang without any fear towards the bandh called by the GNLA.
A reliable source spoke to this scribe that the Police Outpost of Athiabari and Riangdo were deployed at Shallang to provide a blanket security to the residents especially to the non- tribal business communities.
It is also further learnt that the state government is contemplating to deploy central paramilitary forces at Shallang areas very shortly.
Reliable source also told that the GNLA outfits are going to harden the bandh until and unless their demands are met by the businessmen.
The lives of the local people are expected to be affected badly if the bandh continues for another couple of days.
Daily essential food items like rice oil and vegetables remained cut off due to the bandh.
