SHILLONG: The FKJGP Jaintia Hills on Tuesday came down hard on the allegation made by the cement companies against its leaders for trespassing the

companies’ premises, terming them and the FIR that followed as an attempt to create fear in the mind of the leader of the Federation.

“How can we trespass when the press representatives were also present when we met the head of the cement companies and when the police personnel of Lumshnong Dacoit Camp were also present at that time?” FKJGP president (Jaintia Hills unit) Tuesday Lytep said adding that the FIR was intended to create fear in the mind of the leader of the Federation who was committed to the welfare of the workers in the many cement companies in Lumshnong.

One of the major demands of the Federation was reduction in the price of per bag of cement to Rs. 180 for the consumers in both the districts of Jaintia Hills.

“The companies enjoyed various subsidies and destroyed the local environment, yet they have not considered minimising the price (of cement) for residents of Jaintia Hills,” Lytep said.

The Federation also alleged that several cement companies did not comply to the agreement or Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the concerned villages where plants were constructed and are yet to act on their promises.

The Federation further urged the Government to conduct a surprise visit along with the leading NGOs of the districts and inspect the cement plants in Narpuh area to ascertain the blatant violation of government acts and procedure by the companies.
