NONGSTOIN: Concerned over the absence of a BDO at the Mawthadraishan Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Block in West Khasi Hills, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Mawthadraishan circle on Tuesday called for the immediate intervention of the State Government to appoint the concerned official.

The BDO of Mawthadraishan was transferred during the Assembly election in the State and since then, no officer had been appointed to fill the vacant post.

Stressing on the urgency of the matter, the KSU said that the local people faced hardship while pursuing various official works at the C&RD Block office due to the absence of a full-fledged BDO resulting in delay in several developmental initiatives in the area.

Currently, SDO of Mairang Civil Sub Division, L K Diengdoh is in charge of the Block Office at Mawthadraishan.

“His (Diengdoh’s) dual charge is not helping the cause of the people,” the KSU said alleging that the office was not functioning properly since the makeshift BDOs do not take their responsibilities seriously.

The KSU also approached the DC of the district in this regard and will also call upon the C&RD minister, Prestone Tyngsong.
