Provide necessary package to rape victims: FKJGP

 SHILLONG: Expressing concern over the increasing trend of rape and gang rape in the State, the FKJGP Williamnagar Zone on Wednesday demanded necessary assistance and package to be provided by the State government to the victim(s).

In a memorandum issued to the Home Minister Roshan Warjri on Wednesday, the pressure group asked the minister to look into the grievances of the State and East Garo Hills District in particular following repeated cases of rape in the district during the past few months.

FKJGP Williamnagar Zone president Sengseng N Marak stressed on the need to formulate stringent policies to ensure the safety and security of women and children and initiate strong actions against the culprits adding that the Juvenile involved should also be punished.

The FKJGP also highlighted the need to install a Police booth in Williamnagar Civil Hospital and in other Civil Hospitals of the State while adding that more women police personnel should be recruited and more women cells be installed in appropriate centers.

Marak also pointed out that the State of Art Medical Forensic Laboratory should be upgraded. They also reiterated on the demand for immediate setting up of the fast tract court in East Garo Hills District.
