SHILLONG: Following media reports about alleged nepotism in the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), the Corporation is set to take up the matter at its next board meeting after which the matter would be referred to a committee formed under the Commerce and Industries department.

“The allegations will be examined by a committee under the Commerce and Industries, but the matter has to be first looked upon and discussed at the MIDC board meeting,” HOD of Commerce and Industries, W Langstang, told The Shillong Times on Wednesday.

When asked about the date of the proposed board meeting, Langstang said the date will be scheduled after consultation with MIDC Chairman, MM Danggo, who is currently in Assam.

Reacting to allegation that the MIDC Managing Director had flouted recruitment norms, Langstang said, “The norms and rules of the Corporation has to be cross-examined to see if any changes has been incorporated. If it is found that the management has abided by the norms, then the appointment would be considered valid.”

Irregularities in appointment of staffs at the MIDC came to the fore on Tuesday when complaints were raised by many MIDC employees against the management for recruiting kith and kin of either the Managing Director or some politicians without floating any advertisement.
