SHILLONG: Police on Wednesday arrested three people including a minor who were involved in the stealing of mobiles from Radio Talkies mobile store opposite Jaiaw stand at Motphran on May 9.
The arrested accused has been identified as Safikul Islam and Sukur Ali of Demseiñiong. The 14 year old minor who was arrested is the younger brother of Ali.
Additional SP (Crime) Vivek Syiem informed that all the three accused are originally from Barpeta, Assam.
Syiem informed that the three managed to steal a total number of 130 mobiles phones and Ipad amounting around Rs 9.89 lakh even as informing they also manage to run away with cash amounting to Rs 2 lakh which was lying in the mobile store.
“We have found that they have sold maximum of the mobiles in Barpeta. We have manage to get back few of the mobiles from their possession,” Syiem said.
Additional SP (Crime) informed that the shutters manufacturer is also involved in this stealing of these mobiles.
“There are possibilities that the shutters manufacturer might have already made a duplicate key of the shutter which allow the accused to commit this theft,” Syiem while also informing that the person who has manufactured the shutter installed at the mobile stores is still at large.
On this latest case, he said that the accused manage to create a small hole where only a young minor can enter inside the mobile stores.
“They have purposely engaged the 14-year-old for this purpose,” Syiem said.
He said that they are possibilities that the three might also be involved in the stealing of mobiles from other mobile stores in the city.
“We are interrogating the three on this angle also,” Additional SP Crime said.
He also informed that they would be sending a police team to Barpeta to arrest some more people who are involved in this case.
