TURA: A fire that broke out at Gurban market near Rajabala in West Garo Hills district on Tuesday night resulted in the destruction of six shops and damage to property worth several lakhs. What started the fire at Gurban, 3 kms from Rajabala on the road to Singimari, remains a mystery, but local authorities say that someone left a fire unattended in a tea stall which caused the inferno. “We are completely ruling out arson in the incident,” informed a district official.

The six shops which were gutted in the inferno included a medical store, a garment shop, a barbar’s saloon, a pan shop, a mobile phone recharge centre and the tea stall itself. The fire was doused by fire service personnel from Rajabala.
