NONGPOH: The much hyped highway project in Ri Bhoi District though may serve the needs of commuters in the years to come, but at present, is turning out to be a bane for the people especially the farmers and the commuters apparently due to the lack of proper planning.

The indiscriminate dumping of soil from the earth cutting has resulted in the blocking of drains subsequently causing the flow of the water to the nearby paddy fields located along the National Highway 40.

Taking stock of the hardship faced by the farmers owing to the damage to their fields, Umsning MLA Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner Akash Deep Singh along with the Rangbah Shnnong of Pahamsyiem, Saiden, Mawtnum, Garikhana accompanied by Vinod Tripathi ILFS Project Manager and Sudhir Kumar, General Manager of the Ramky Infrastructure Pvt Ltd conducted a spot inspection of the drainages blocked due to the fourlaning project.

The company agreed and assured to take necessary actions as to mitigate the problems faced by the people especially the farmers.
