Kohima: The 12-hour dawn to dusk bandh called by the apex students body to protest inter-factional clashes and harassment meted out to the public by armed Naga underground groups in Nagaland hit the normal life in Kohima on Monday.

All educational institutions and government establishments, business establishments were closed while vehicles are off the roads, the police said.

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), an apex students’ body in Nagaland, president Tongpang Ozukum said that the bandh is being observed in Nagaland and three neighbouring Naga inhabited states – Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.

NSF called the bandh against the clashes and killings amongst the underground factions, imposition of illegal taxation by Naga underground groups, arbitrary harassment and threatening the lives of innocent civilians and also the recent attempt on life of one of its official.

Till noon, there has not been any report of untoward incident from any quarters, the police said.

NSF president Ozukum claimed that his organisation’s call has been supported by all the apex tribal bodies of the Nagaland who are also concerned over the violence. (PTI)
