SHILLONG: The Rynjah Telecom Colony Welfare Association (BSNL) Shillong is staging two plays Ajnatobaas and Madhabi to be performed by the reputed theatre group Nandikar from Kolkata on July 13-14 at the Soso Tham Auditorium at 6.30 pm.
Ajnatobaas is the story of an elderly dignified woman who had ‘lost’ her memory. A simple story – as it unfolds – slowly turns into a cliff-hanging thriller, a whodunit!
Thematically, Ajnatobaas is a parable of goodness encountering the crippling realities of life. Depicting the journey of a woman this play reveals that most of us have lost our ability to identify and welcome ‘goodness’ around us. A ‘good person’ is a ‘suspect’!
The second play Madhabi is taken from the Mahabharata. It is about Yayati’s daughter Madhabi and her lover Galab a disciple of Rishi Vishwamitra. Like all epics the protagonist Madhabi makes noble sacrifices for her lover, her father etc., to the point of losing her identity.
