Cough syrup seized

 JOWAI: Police of Lumshnong anti docaity camp seized 1110 bottles of cough syrup (phensedyl) from a Santro (ASO1A 0612) coming from lower Assam proceeding towards Lower Assam on the wee hours of Saturday at around 3:40 am at Sunapur village in East Jaintia Hills district.

Police sources informed that they tried to stop the vehicle at Lumshnong check gate but the driver fled away. Police chased the vehicle and on reaching Sunapur, the driver abandoned the vehicle on the road side and two of its occupants fled away immediately into the nearby jungle.

Each bottle has the MRP price tags of Rs 80 and police said the seized medicine would cost more than Rs 88, 000 and if sold in black market it will cost more than ten lakh.

Police also suspect that the consignment was meant for smuggling into Bangladesh.
