SHILLONG: The two day platinum jubilee celebrations of Bangiya Sahitya Parishad (BSP) concluded at its auditorium in Jail Road on Sunday evening with a call for unity.
Local MLA and Home Minister Roshan Warjri urged the BSP to keep the cultural bonhomie and unity alive. Warjri also released a souvenir commemorating the platinum jubilee celebration of BSP.
Earlier during the session, a multilingual poetry recitation was presented. Poets from different communities like Khasi, Garo, Bengali, Sanskrit, Nepali, Hindi among others presented solo poems which were translated at the same time in English for better understanding of the audience.
In the evening session, 11 renowned personalities from the city and elsewhere were felicitated. Among them were Shyamadas Bhattacharjee, Tushar Kanti Bhattacharjee, Rishi Bhattacharjee, Afzal Hossain, Sukla Dam, Sandhya Lahiri, Mridula Dhar, Ardhendu Bikash Roy, Pijush Dhar among others.
Lahiri, a renowned regional dancer and former educationist, presented a few steps on the stage on the opening day despite the fact that she is in her eighties. These personalities were felicitated for their contribution in the field of art, culture, literature, music, performing arts, and societal contributions among others. An opening song on national integration was presented by the students of BSP draped in traditional attire from the region which earned applause from the audience on Sunday. Dances by Geetanjali Dance Academy were also performed.
