Extortionists arrested in city

 SHILLONG: The Special Cell of the Shillong Police on Thursday arrested six people including two juveniles from the city for their alleged involvement in several extortion cases under Dispur PS, Assam.

Acting on a tip off from Crime Branch of Guwahati Police, the city police laid a trap and arrested the six from a house in Madanryting area, Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem told reporters here.

A vehicle (AS 01 AV 8068) was also seized from them.

The arrested persons are Deepak Thapa (29), Dilbor Ali (24), Rahidul Amin (34), Liakat Ali (42) all from Guwahati (Picture in P-10) and two juveniles are from Mizo Veng in Happy Valley, Shillong. The extortionists, led by Liakat Ali (42) from Barpeta (Assam), were also sought by the Assam Police in connection with several cases and the latest of which a case of one businessman from Assam who was victimized by their illegal activity, Syiem added. When asked whether these extortionists were involved in any extortion case in the city, the SP (City) said that there has been no such case registered against them in the city. The six extortionists have been handed over to the Assam police later in the day.
