NONGSTOIN: The four NGOs – HANM, HPSO, WPM and WYWC of West Khasi Hills that recently called for two consecutive 10 hrs road blockade in the district announced a 24 hrs road blockade throughout West Khasi Hills on August 27.

The decision for the road blockade was unanimously taken in a meeting that was attended by leaders and members of the four NGOs on Saturday at the hall of the Syiem of Nongstoin.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, Will Iawphniaw, vice president of the HANM West Khasi Hills said, “We have unanimously decided to organize a 24 hrs road blockade that would be effective throughout West Khasi Hills on August 27 starting 5 AM to 5 AM of August 28.”

“I thank the people of the district for their co-operation in the two 10 hrs road blockade and request them to please bear and co-operate with us as the cause we are fighting for is for the injustice that has been meted out to our brothers and sisters,” he added.

It may be mentioned that the blockade has been called to protest the Government’s silence and inaction over the revalidation of the merit list of the DSC 2010 of West Khasi Hills District.

Meanwhile the indefinite hunger strike by the AWKHDSC Passed 2010 entered a week on Monday morning. Since Saturday, the agitators have also refused to be admitted to the hospital.
