SHILLONG: NPP leader and former Leader of Opposition Conrad Sangma is of the view that the State Government should take responsibility to intervene and put an end to the bandh culture in Shillong and the State.

Speaking to The Shillong Times on Sunday, Sangma stated that calling for bandh is a form of expression to show resentment.

He, however, observed that there were other forms of expressing resentment that does not interfere with the life and livelihood of the common man.

On the 36-hour bandh called by the HNLC in protest against the visit of President Pranab Mukherjee, the former Leader of Opposition said that it would be inappropriate to show disrespect to the President who has been elected constitutionally. He also said that he was clueless on the motive of the HNLC to call for the bandh during the visit of the President to the State.
