Arrests made based on evidence
Police chief rebuts Kharshiing’s claims
SHILLONG: The District police have brushed aside allegations leveled by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing against the police forces accusing them of ‘selecting perpetrators’ in many arson cases.
“We are a professional police force and we function as per the law,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang said here on Monday, while reacting to Kharshiing’s allegations.
The CSWO president had on Sunday accused the police for selecting the perpetrators in many arson cases and had claimed that the incidences of petrol bomb being hurled seem to be personal vendettas and the perpetrators were very selective.
Kharshiing who was released on bail on Saturday had also stated that the attempt to pile their (Police) failure of investigation on the pro- ILP group indicates poor policing.
Expressing disapproval with Kharshiing’s statement, Kharkrang said, “We don’t function like that and the arrests made so far in connection with the various arson cases were made based on evidences.”
