TURA: Four minor girls studying in Montfort Centre of Education School in Tura had a providential escape from the clutches of a female abductor who entered the premises and forcibly took three of them out of the campus only to be stopped by a ‘mysterious’ woman who’s intervention prevented their disappearance.

The daring attempt took place on Tuesday afternoon shortly after the day’s annual examinations got over.

A middle-aged woman trespassed into the premises of the girls’ hostel, located a walking distance from the main school building, and called out four young girls in the age of six and seven who were playing in the compound of the hostel. The kidnapper is believed to have taken advantage of the entry of people from outside during the school hours since the institution also caters to a large section of day scholars.

“The unidentified woman tried to take the four girls from Classes KG and I by force and wanted to throw them over the boundary wall and escape. When they resisted the attempt and began to cry she threatened them with a knife concealed in her hand bag,” revealed school Principal Brother K J Jose of the St. Gabriel Brothers’ congregation.

During the incident one of the girls managed to break free and flee to the hostel to raise an alarm.

In the meantime, the female kidnapper managed to smuggle out three children through a small passage behind the school wall that was used by locals as a short cut.

The culprit did not get far with her victims as an alert lady pedestrian who is said to be waiting for public transport at Daldagre main road near Sherwood School noticed the hostility between the children and the elder forcing her to intervene. During her questioning of the woman the children made a break for freedom and ran to the school even as the would-be abductor is said to have fled in the opposite direction and her whereabouts remain unknown.

“From the description given by the children the woman who tried to abduct them was of middle age and police are investigating the incident,” informed Montfort officials from Tura.

The identity of the lady ‘saviour’ who stopped the kidnapper from going ahead with her kidnapping plans also remains a mystery.
