Project to take off early 2014
SHILLONG: The Health and Family Welfare Minister, A.L. Hek on Friday visited the proposed site for Tura Medical College at Balalgre/Jewilgre, 17 kilometers from Tura.
Hek who was on an inspection tour to the site said that the State Government will definitely take up the project by the beginning of 2014 and expressed hope that its completion will pave the way for better healthcare facilities for the people of Garo Hills and the State.
During his visit, the Health Minister took stock of the ground situation for the proper demarcation of land earmarked for the project.
The State Government has entrusted the task of preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for construction of the Tura Medical College-cum-Hospital to a Delhi-based firm–Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd.
The firm will work out the modalities for infrastructural and other related developmental works besides carrying out a detailed survey of the proposed site. The report is like to be completed in four months time, sources informed.
The foundation stone for construction of the proposed Tura Medical College was laid by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on December 12 last. The proposed medical college to be constructed on the 99 acres of land will have the capacity to cater to 500 patients at time besides accommodating 100 students.
During the visit, Hek was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary in charge Health and Family welfare, Sengnam Marak, government officials and members of consultancy firm from New Delhi.
