SHILLONG: KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pynshngaiñ N Syiem has taken a dig at some of the Executive Members (EMs) for shifting their stand on the proposed delimitation of the Council constituencies.
Along with the KHNAM MDCs — Adelbert Nongrum, Carmel Sohtun and James Ban Basaiawmoit, the two EMs in the Congress-led EC — Grace Mary Kharpuri (Ind) and Irin Lyngdoh (Congress) — along with Nongkrem Congress MDC Lambor Malngiang had met Governor on Thursday to oppose the proposed delimitation.
“I am surprised to learn that some of the EMs had accompanied the group of MDCs who met Governor to oppose on the proposed delimitation. I was not expecting such a thing to happen since these EMs had not raised any opposition when the proposed delimitation Bill was tabled for discussion in the EC,” Syiem said here on Friday.
He said that the EMs who had gone to meet Governor had also backed the passing of the delimitation Bill during a special session of KHADC in December last year.
“This only shows their selfish motive to take advantage of the situation just for their own political gain,” Syiem said.
Meanwhile, KHADC CEM hoped that the Governor would give his assent to the delimitation Bill since they have carried out the delimitation exercise as per his recommendations to constitute the Delimitation Committee.
Earlier on Thursday, a group of six MDCs in the KHADC after meeting the Governor had threatened to move court if government decides to implement the KHADC Delimitation Bill and hold upcoming Council election in delimited constituencies.
