SHILLONG: The CSWO has urged all militant groups operating in the State to come over ground so that talks for peace can be achieved for the benefits of the people.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said that it appears that politicians, some bureaucrats and police are too eager not to solve the problem of militancy as they want militancy to thrive so that they can avail funds meant for the development of the State.

“The government should not put trigger happy killers to look after various districts but should appoint honest police officials who will do justice to the people at large,” she said.

According to Kharshiing, the statement of Commissioner and Secretary in-charge Home (Police), J Lyngdoh that no talks can be held with others is unacceptable since he is a government servant and should refrain from speaking something that might disrupt any chance of peace in the State.

The CSWO also condemned the attack by Tura Police on the ANVC-B cadres and urged for a CBI inquiry into the matter.

Kharshiing also said that politicians using youths and amassing wealth is not a new phenomenon. “There are cases where politicians have groomed youths to do their dirty job and killed them when they have finished with them,” Kharshiing alleged, while referring to Fullmoon Dhar who was shot dead by present Tura SP Mukesh K Singh, who at that time was the SP of Jaintia Hills.

The CSWO demanded that Singh should be removed from his post to bring about peace in Garo Hills.
