Deprived UDP ticket aspirants slam party leaders

OWAI: UDP supporters and aspirant candidates, Daplin Rymbai of Jowai Central and Welcome Langi of Sohmynting village under Sohmynting-Khliehtyrshi Constituency has strongly criticised the UDP in Jaintia Hills and the State for not allotting the Party tickets to them for contesting the District Council Election to be held on February 24.

“We and the party supporters are worried over the decision of the party leaders and the screening committee on not allotting the party tickets”, said Rymbai and Langi after the meeting at Daplin’ residents held on Tuesday.

They claimed that the meeting was attended by over 200 UDP supporters, however they refused to reply in to a query whether they would contest as Independent Candidates.

The UDP ticket was alloted to Kitbok Nongtdu of Iongpiah Jowai in Jowai Central and to Lakhon Ksiar.

The Womens’ Wing Secretary, P Synnah also criticised UDP party leaders. “It seems that the UDP has neglected us (women). The party never understood the meaning of Women’s Empowerment”, she said.
