Setback for Cong in Umroi

NONGPOH: In a major setback to the Congress Party in Umroi MDC constituency, a senior and influential leader of Umroi Block Congress Committee (UBCC) Lumkamai Nongrum bid adieu to the party and also joined to the bandwagon of independent candidate MD Syiem who is also in the fray from the Umroi Constituency.

Nongrum was one among the Congress leader who worked toward ensuring the victory of present Umroi legislator Ngaitlang Dhar in the last Assembly election 2013, in which political observer opined that Syiem campaign is now on the right track with Nongrum as one of his campaigner for the ensuing MDC election.

Giving a grand reception to Nongrum, the Umroi Constituency People Front (UCPF) held a gathering at Syiem Resident which was also attended by the Umroi Constituency well known personality and other senior leaders in which they warmly welcome Nongrum to their camp.

Addressing the gathering, Nongrum said that he left the Congress party as he was concerned for the development of the area and everyone would still be groping in the dark if he continued to be in the Congress party.
