SHILLONG: In a move aiming to boost taekwondo as a sport in the district, the Nehru Yuva Kendra and East Khasi Hills DC in collaboration with the Meghalaya Moonlight Taekwondo Academy (MMTA) organised free taekwondo coaching classes for girls from February 10-March 10 at part of the District Youth Festival.

Twenty-seven girls took part in the classes, which were held at the MMTA premises in Jhalupara.

The coaching classes were held with the objective of instilling confidence in the girls as well as motivating and training them for district and state level tournaments. Improving their self-defence skills was also an important goal.

The MMTA also distributed some exercise books to the poor and needy students of the locality with the help of former MLA Manas Chaudhuri.
