Opposition demands hike of JHADC MDC schemes to Rs 6 crore

JOWAI: Opposition leader in the JHADC, Moonlight Pariat, on Wednesday made a proposal to the Executive Committee (EC) to hike the sanction for the MDC development schemes from Rs.3 crore to Rs.6 crore.
Earlier the EC had enhanced the sanction from Rs.1.98 crore to Rs.3 crore.
Pariat also expressed concern over overcrowding of staff in the District Council and pointed out that 48 numbers of vacancies had been mentioned in the budget provision tabled in the House.
EM in charge Finance and Account Department, JR Pyrtuh informed that all 48 posts had already been filled up without any sanction by the previous Executive Committee and the same had to be placed in the budget provision.
The lone woman MDC in the House, Violet Lyngdoh, spoke on the need to enhance the development scheme meant for the Khliehriat Town Committee.
“Enhancement of the scheme will allow various development activities to be taken up in the areas within the purview of the Khliehriat Town Committee,” Lyngdoh said.
Lyngdoh also demanded that the budget allocation proposed for Khliehriat Town Committee should be raised from the proposed Rs.12 lakh to Rs.30 lakh.
Nongkhlieh MDC, Richard Sing Lyngdoh informed the House that with the creation of East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat has become the District headquarters which has created and urgent need for redevelopment of Iawpyngkat Market in Khliehriat.
“Redevelopment of the Market would help the people of East Jaintia Hills,” he said.
Jowai North MDC Marki Mulieh stressed on the need for bifurcation of the Fishery Department, Market Department, Agriculture and Soil Department which has till date been operating under a single Head of Account.
Mulieh also sought clarification in the House on the procedure for utilization of Gratuity Relief fund and Discretionary Grant.
EM in charge of Finance and Account, JR Pyrtuh, informed that there are no certain rules and regulation and guideline for utilization under this head of account and the same depended on the will of the EC.
Later, the House was adjourned till Friday.
HS Bareh elected JHADC Dy Chairman
Sutnga-Narwan MDC Hoping Stone Bareh was on Wednesday unanimously elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council.
JHADC Chairman Lait Sing Shylla informed the House that Bareh alone had filed four sets of nomination papers for the post of Deputy Chairman and since no one else had contested the post, Bareh was declared elected unopposed.
