SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) has increased its vigil in areas along the Indo-Bangla international border in the State to ensure peaceful Lok Sabha elections.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, BSF said that special operations have been launched along the border to avoid any untoward incident.

The force’s strength along the border has been augmented and senior officers with all paraphernalia including medical, communication and motor transport are camping at border outposts, the statement added.

Based on the list of sensitive booths falling along the Indo-Bangla border, special patrolling and other operations are being conducted by BSF troops in coordination with local police to create a sense of security among the voters in the State.

“Special emphasis has been given to South Garo Hills District,” the BSF statement said.

Besides responsibilities on the border, 12 companies of BSF (Meghalaya Frontier) have also been deployed across the North East to ensure free and fair polls, out of which eight companies have been deployed in Meghalaya and Mizoram.
