SHILLONG: Despite the withdrawal of the fund earmarked under the Sohra Eco-Restoration Project, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Soil and Water Conservation Rowell Lyngdoh said that the State Government would implement the project for restoration of ecology of Sohra plateau.
“The fund would be sanctioned in the near future and other related departments would execute the project. Move is on to link the project with the Integrated Basin Development Programme,”Lyngdoh said here on Monday.
He said that the State was compelled to withdraw the budget provision under the project due to the problem of fund constraint.
The State Government last year had decided to withdraw the budget provision of Rs 27 crore which had been earmarked for the project.
According to reports, the first and second installment worth Rs 16 crore and Rs 18 crore had already been utilized.
The six-year scheme ‘Sohra Ecological Project for Restoration of Degraded Lands under Sohra Plateau’ which began to be implemented in 2010 was approved by the Planning Commission. Initially Rs 87.16 crore was earmarked for the project.
