TURA: Reports of a woman being executed by Garo militants in militancy ravaged Chokpot region of south Garo Hills has been coming in even though police are awaiting confirmation of the incident from ground forces.

“We have received reports that a woman was shot dead by GNLA militants at Raja Ronggat village of Chokpot on Tuesday evening. But we can confirm it only by daybreak when our forces are at the site,” informed district police chief Lakador Syiem.

He said that police were moving cautiously to avoid any possible ambush plans by militants given the recent uprising in Chokpot where public attacked the police over custodial death of a suspect.

Police mention that the woman was reportedly shot dead by GNLA militants led by one Tengton and the causes were yet unknown.

Meanwhile, night curfew remains in place from 7 PM to 5 AM in the troubled region and district administration was contemplating to lift the night closure in total within this week provided there is normalization of the situation.
