NONGPOH: Peeved with the tardy construction and inordinate delay of the Centrally-sponsored schemes (CSS) in Ri Bhoi district, the Ri Bhoi Youth Development & Social Organization (RBYDSO), on Monday demanded immediate removal of Pooja Pandey as Deputy Commissioner of the district and also sought for implementation of the CSS concerned under the EACs.

The organization held them accountable and answerable, as the officers concerned did not take any initiative to speed up the project construction and opening which would have helped mitigate the problems of the people and boost infrastructure development in the district.

Some of the incomplete CSS projects, which have become eyesore for the people of the state, includes- the solid waste management of Rs 6 crore at Umshangling village, the housing for urban poor project of Rs 7.8 crore at Umbuda village, the four-laning of the Shillong-Jorabat Expressway project and expansion of the Umroi Airport.

Addressing the media, in Nongpoh on Monday, RBYDSO president, Arnold Syngkli, said that the inefficiency of the DC and her subordinates to monitor the implementation of different CSS’s in the district is unacceptable because due to their lethargic attitude a wrong feeling of step-motherly treatment by the centre is aroused among the people of the state.

Highlighting on the incomplete CSS in the district, Syngkli said that the housing complex for the poor would be a boon for the poor families in the district if the project was completed as per scheduled.

The RBYDSO president said, the expansion of the Umroi Airport is a non starter as the district administration has delayed in releasing the payment of land compensations to the people who were affected.
