TURA: A group of suspected militants exchanged gunfire with police in Betasing area of South West Garo Hills district on Monday evening.

Police teams raided Arrengre village, 6 kms from Betasing, after receiving inputs of presence of ultras in the area.

“When our teams were approaching the village some militants carrying small arms opened fire on them and our boys retaliated forcing them to flee. There were no casualties,” informed R Muthu, district police chief from Ampati. Police are unclear about the identity of the militants but suspect them to be either from GNLA or ASAK outfit.
