SHILLONG: Former State Chief Secretary HWT Syiem has said that if there is a law preventing dual posts, this should be strictly followed.

In the wake of the demand for disqualification of MLAs who are holding the posts of MDCs, Syiem said that in the past, people have been conventionally occupying the dual posts, but if there is a law preventing the same, it should prevail.

He also said that if the law is flouted, there should be necessary steps to address the same.

Syiem also said that drawing double salary will amount to office of profit.

He cited the example of (Late) Prof. B Pakem, who after getting elected as MLA, did not draw salary from the Assembly, but preferred to take the salary from NEHU as he was still teaching.
