Bank manager’s murder: Six held

JOWAI: West Jaintia Hills Police have cracked the case related to the killing of Syrpailut Khonglam, branch manager of Meghalaya Rural Bank at Iooksi village, who was found murdered in his rented house on Wednesday morning.
West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Herbert Lyngdoh informed that police arrested five persons identified as Teishwamiki Shylla, Riki Rabon, Sing Rabon, Binison Lapasam and Willson Massar, and based on leads provided by them police later nabbed Sakhiat Ymbon, believed to be the mastermind of the crime.
Police also recovered the knife and the vehicle used in the crime.
Lyngdoh informed that the accused had confessed that they had intended to rob the bank which was located on the first floor while the manager was staying on the ground floor.
The branck manager was trying to secure the bank from the robbers and got killed in the act, Lyngdoh added.
The police chief also informed that all the arrested persons have been kept in police custody and further interrogation was on.
