TURA: The recent notification issued by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) directing teachers appointed on or after September, 3, 2001, who did not secure 45 per cent marks in their Pre-University/HSSLC examinations to reappear for the same has irked the teaching community with the All Garo Hills Adhoc Lower Primary School Teachers’ Association (AGHALPSTA) condemning the move and cautioning all concerned not to abide by it.
The MBOSE in its notification dated August 21, 2014, had specifically addressed the Directive to all Government, Adhoc, Deficit and SSA Primary school teachers who were appointed no sooner than 3rd September.
The AGHALPSTA while strongly opposing the move by the MBOSE has also termed it as irrational as many of the teachers have been in service for as many as 10 to 12 years.
While it admitted that a minimum of 45 per cent marks was required for a candidate to be appointed as a teacher as per the NCTE norms, it argued that if that were to be brought into consideration the rule should come into immediate effect as and in which year it was first adopted.
“Many of us have been in service for more than ten years and it is ridiculous that we have been asked to reappear in the HSSLC examination. They should have provided us some sort of training instead,” the AGHALPSTA said, and appealed to all teachers not to take the examination.
