Ho Chi Minh City: The Vietnam football squad is set to depart for Myanmar to compete in the 2014 Under-19 Asian Football Championship (AFC) scheduled from Oct 9-23.
The team, which left for Myanmar Monday, had fruitful training sessions and match practice at the Ham Rong Sport Center in the Central Highlands Gia Lai province, reports Xinhua.
Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) vice chairman Doan Nguyen Duc told local Radio Voice of Vietnam that the team is mentally and physically prepared for the challenges in the tournament.
In Group C, Vietnam are set to face strong rivals in South Korea (Oct 9), Japan (Oct 11) and China two days later.
Winning a medal at the the championship is the first step towards securing a play-off spot to the 2015 Under-20 WC in New Zealand, said the official.(ians)
