SHILLONG: A two-day National Seminar on “Improving Learning Outcomes at School Level: Issues in Policy Planning and Implementation” organized by North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE) in joint collaboration with North Eastern Council (NEC) concluded here on Thursday at the NEC Secretariat Auditorium.
The seminar was inaugurated on Wednesday by Ameising Luikham, Secretary, NEC. NEC formulates the plan for the region and this seminar is a part of it.
While underlining the importance of education in the development of North Eastern region, Luikham exhorted delegates, participants and stakeholders to identify issues and suggest recommendations for the improvement of quality of education in the region. There are several such challenges unique to this region, viz., contextualizing some of the features of SSA/RMSA in view of the topography of NE, addressing the issue of migration of students for better educational opportunities, scholarships, etc which need to be spelt out, he opined.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Manmohan Singh, Dean, School of Education, NEHU, Shillong, commended the initiatives of NEC and hoped that this seminar will go a long way in achieving its objectives of formulating a declarative action plan for the improvement of education in the region.
Prof. Singh also stressed the need for removing all difficulties in starting two-year B.Ed. course by NERIE in the interests of the region and the nation.
Earlier, the programme began with a welcome address by Prof. A Sukumar, Principal, NERIE, while its objectives were placed by Prof. N. Pradhan, Seminar Coordinator.
One of the main purposes of this seminar is to suggest ways for improving quality education in the region which will be used in formulating policy by the NEC.
The seminar is being attended by large number of academicians, including a few eminent educationists of the country and various stakeholders of education.
