SHILLONG: MBoSE Executive Chairman EP Kharbhih said that the Board was only following the directive of the State Government in implementing the NCTE norms which makes it mandatory for Government school teachers to fulfill a minimum qualification.

Under NCTE norms, the concerned teachers must have at least 45 per cent marks in the pre-university or HSSLC examinations.

“It is for this reason that teachers who were appointed on or after September 2001, but have not fulfilled the minimum qualification are required to appear the HSSLC examinations, 2015 to meet the eligibility criteria as specified by the NCTE,” the MBoSE Executive Chairman said.

He informed that in order to help the school teachers to meet the criteria, the Board has prepared set of questionnaire for them.

“We understand that it would be difficult for the teachers to re-appear for the examinations after such a long gap…The questions which the teachers will have to attempt will be mainly objective and semi-objective,” Kharbhih said.

The MBoSE Executive Chairman informed that so far 7819 school teachers have filled their forms to re-appear for the examinations.

“The number will cross the 8000 mark since the last date for submission of forms has been extended by another ten days,” he informed.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education department, RC Laloo had said that the MBoSE notification intended to help those primary school teachers whose services were yet to be regularized.

“With the implementation of the RTE, it has become necessary to fulfill the NCTE norms. Therefore, it will be extremely difficult to regularize the service of the teachers unless they are able to meet the eligibility criteria as mandated by the NCTE,” Prof RC Laloo had stated.
