SHILLONG: MBoSE Executive Chairman E.P. Kharbhih has revealed that the Board has been confronted with a serious problem of leakages of question papers in some schools in the plain belts of Garo Hills.
He informed that a large numbers of students had been expelled from the Board examinations for resorting to unfair means during the examinations in the plain belt areas, and added that the news about expulsion of the students had been reported in the local media.
“We have managed to establish that leakages of question papers have been happening since some heads of institutions have close links with a number of examinees. The trend was very alarming five years ago. But now we have been able to stabilize the problem to a certain extent,” Kharbhih said while talking to newsmen here on Wednesday.
Kharbhih said that strong action have been taken against some of the erring schools which has yielded positive results since cases of use of unfair means have come down in the last three year.
Asked about the reason behind the low pass percentage in Garo Hills region, Kharbhih said that this was because a large number of private candidates were appearing the Board examinations in Garo Hills.
“Majority of the private candidates who failed in the previous years are re-appearing in the examination and the number of private candidates is going up with each passing year,” the MBoSE Executive Chairman said.
Admitting that the pass percentage of the private candidates was well below the 15 per cent mark, he said that the pass percentage of the regular students in Garo Hills was satisfactory within the range of 60 to 65 per cent.
