351 cases settled on Lok Adalat day

Itanagar:Marking the second National Lok Adalat Day, a total of 351 cases, out of 1510 listed, were disposed on Saturday by the district and session courts all over Arunachal.

A highest award of motor vehicle accidental claims amounting to a total of Rs 64,40,000 lakhs was also achieved during the day by the Lok Adalats held across the state. Out of 351 disposed cases, 155 were of criminal compoundable nature, 125 were motor vehicle challan cases, 41 of civil nature, 23 Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) cases and seven cases of bank recovery.

‘National Lok Adalat’ is being organized by the ‘National Legal Services Authority (NLSA)’, ‘State Legal Services Authorities’ and ‘District Legal Services Authorities’ throughout the country.

The first ‘National Lok Adalat’ was organised on November 23 last year, with a record 28 lakh cases pending in various courts settled. The National Lok Adalat at District and Ses-sion Court, West Session Division Yupia Bench was headed by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Hirendra Kash-yap and district session judge Budi Habung.

Habung in a commu-niqué on Sunday Informing about the compensation scheme, Habung said that the quantum of compen-sation for loss of life is Rs two lakhs, one lakh for acid attack victims, 50,000 for rape and to victims who have been handicapped up to 80 per cent. (PTI)
