Tura: The District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), Tura, was inaugurated here on Monday at the Tura Civil Hospital by Commissioner for Persons with Disability, C. Kharkongor.

In her inaugural address, she informed that the two DDRCs of Meghalaya – Tura and Nongstoin – were sanctioned in the 12th Plan.

With the up gradation of the District Resource Centre into the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre the requirements of persons with disability will be met more effectively, she hoped.

The DDRC will have improved infrastructure and manpower which for long had been affecting the efficient functioning of the existing DRC, she added.

She requested the Social Welfare department, the SSA and other allied departments to work in convergence for early detection of persons with disability.

She hoped that the DDRC would also be a centre for the welfare of the disabled and urged the staff of DDRC, Tura to live up to the expectations for which it has been established.

Among others who spoke at the inaugural function were Dr. M. Barthakur, Project Director & State Coordinator, SRC, Civil Hospital, Shillong, S.K. Seal, Programme Manager, SRC, Shillong, Dr. M.A. Sangma, Superintendent, Tura Civil Hospital and Dr. C.R. Marak, Nodal Officer, DRC, Tura Civil Hospital.
